Chinese robotics firm Star Era unveils its first humanoid robot at CES, marking its global debut with advanced capabilities that rival industry giants.
The company showcased STAR1, a humanoid robot that can run, carry heavy loads, and perform complex tasks at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang featured the robot during his keynote speech.
Star Era also introduced XHAND1, a five-finger robotic hand that mirrors human dexterity. The hand contains 12 moving parts that let it handle tools and perform detailed work.
STAR1 comes equipped with 55 moving parts spread across its body. Its legs have 12, arms have 14, and its back and neck contain 3 and 2 respectively.
The robot can carry up to 160 kg of weight. It runs at speeds of 3.6 meters per second and operates using the company's ERA-42 model, which helps it understand its surroundings.
Star Era claims STAR1 has already proven itself in tough environments. The robot successfully completed tests in the Gobi Desert and showed it can work with different tools.
The year-old company joins established names like Figure 02 and Boston Dynamics in the race to develop useful humanoid robots. These robots could potentially transform industries from manufacturing to healthcare.
