Google's DeepMind Partners With Apptronik To Blend AI And Advanced Humanoid Robots
Silicon Valley is about to witness a marriage of artificial mind and machine with the newest partnership between Google DeepMind and Apptronik. Their collaboration is set to pave the way for smarter humanoid robots that can be used across various industries.
The partnership aims to use Apptronik's robotics specialization with the complex artificial intelligence capabilities of Google DeepMind, which should result in the eventual creation of robots capable of handling complex tasks.
- "We're building a future where humanoid robots address urgent global challenges," Apptronik CEO Jeff Cardenas said.
Apollo, Apptronik's latest machine, weighs 160 pounds and stands 5'8'' tall. It's designed to perform physical tasks safely even with humans around them.
The machine is just one of 15 unique machines Apptronik has created since the Texas-based company emerged from the Human Centered Robotics Lab of the University of Texas at Austin in 2016. Among its other robots is Valkyrie, a humanoid especially built for NASA.
Apollo has already attracted attention from major companies. Both GXO and Mercedes-Benz have partnered with Apptronik to use the robot.
Google DeepMind brings its experience in machine learning and physics simulation to the partnership.
Among Google's more recent developments is Gemini, an AI system designed to help machines make faster, more efficient decisions in more complex real-world situations.
If both DeepMind and Apptronik's specializations are combined, they may be able to create robots that can work in complex industries such as homes and healthcare - all of which require human assistance.
