Elon Musk Wants Tesla To Build 500k Humanoid Robots By 2027
Elon Musk wants Tesla to build 500,000 humanoid robots by 2027. The Tesla CEO wants these Tesla robots, named Optimus, to surpass Tesla cars in terms of use case and importance.
"We're working hard to scale up production,"
Musk says. He believes these robots will reshape both the job market and home life, as they will be as "must-have" elements at home as smartphones.
This announcement was made just as Musk said Tesla is ramping up its operations in the robot workplace.
Tesla's car factories will switch gears to include robot production. The company will use its experience in artificial intelligence and manufacturing to build these mechanical workers.
The Optimus robot first appeared in 2021. Tesla designed it to handle basic tasks in factories, homes, and construction sites.
These robots could help care for elderly people and take on dangerous jobs. Tesla sees them working in everything from healthcare to shipping.
"Humanoids will redefine what it means to have a personal assistant,"
Musk says. He wants robots to handle jobs humans prefer not to do.
Tech experts question Tesla's ability to mass-produce complex robots. They point to potential safety risks and technical challenges.
Musk dismisses these doubts. "We've proven time and again that innovation drives progress,"
he says.
The robot project marks Tesla's biggest venture beyond cars, potentially changing how humans and machines work together.
