Nvidia Plans New Computer Brain for Humanoid Robots

Nvidia will release Jetson Thor, a compact computer for controlling humanoid robots, in early 2025.

The company aims to supply hardware to robot manufacturers rather than build robots itself.

  • "Hundreds of thousands" of robot makers worldwide could use the new technology, said Deepu Talla, Nvidia's vice president of robotics.

The company currently provides technology for Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot project.

The launch comes as advances in AI and robot training in virtual environments make robotic development more efficient.

Industry watchers say the move follows efforts by major customers like Amazon and Google to reduce dependence on Nvidia's AI chips.

The company sees robotics as a key market as tech giants develop their own chips.
