OpenAI Plans Return to Robot Development

OpenAI is looking to build human-shaped robots, marking its return to robotics four years after shutting down its original robotics team.

Sources close to the company say OpenAI has started investing in robot-focused startups and reviving its internal robotics programs.

The AI company has already backed Figure and Physical Intelligence, two firms specializing in robot technology.

These humanoid robots would have arms and legs, unlike traditional factory robots that perform single tasks.

The project aims to create robots that can work in regular buildings and spaces without requiring special modifications.

However, sources say OpenAI isn't treating this as a priority project yet, focusing instead on its core AI technology development.

The company sees humanoid robots fitting into environments built for humans, potentially making them more practical than specialized industrial machines.

This move follows a growing trend of mixing AI with physical robotics, though experts say developing such robots needs significant time and resources.
